The one indulgence you would never forgo? Being surrounded by great company and food. I recently discovered Maya Angelou’s smothered chicken from Oprah Winfrey’s cook book, Food, Health and Happiness. I enjoy making this meal for my friends.

The grooming staple you’re never without? La Mer’s Replenishing Oil Exfoliator, a blend of sea kelp and other vitamins combine to heal your skin from damage by daily pollution.

What would we find in your bathroom cabinet? I’m a La Mer fan, so the full range. And a stack of fresh, fluffy towels.

What tech gadget couldn’t you live without? My iPad and Apple Pencil. I love how Apple has created this ecosystem that considers my life at every phase, be it in the boardroom or when I travel. Also my Harman Kardon travel speaker.

What’s your most prized possession? My custom-made brown leather couch — it’s so grounding and warm. It’s my happy place in winter, with a glass of wine in hand as the sun sets over the Highveld.

So is wine your preferred tipple then? And Martinis.

Your favourite restaurant? The restaurant at La Residence in Franschhoek, a Portfolio Collection hotel. Executive chef Lennard Marais sits down with you and discusses the menu and your preferences before creating the dishes. It’s a gem.

What’s your personal style signifier? I enjoy wearing what I call interactive clothes, which make a bold social statement.

Your favourite watch brand? Montblanc, as it bridges classic and modern, and has history and superb technology. For me personally, the brand’s contribution to film has been quite amazing to watch. I own two Montblanc timepieces.

The last place you travelled to that captured your heart? Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape is one of the most spiritual places I’ve ever visited. It’s untouched and still pristine: nature and people are still one here.

Which books are on your bedside table? Marianne Williamson’s A Year of Miracles: Daily Devotions and Reflections. My spiritual mother, Khanyi Dhlomo, recommended it. And Brené Brown’s Rising Strong.

The last meal that really blew you away? The line fish in foil at Mezepoli in Melrose Arch in Joburg.

Your favourite muso? Harry Styles. His music is pioneering, and his ability to balance light and dark is refreshing. There is a nice confluence to his music.

What will we find in your fridge? Kale and avocado — they’re high in fibre and rich in antioxidants.

The best gift you’ve been given recently? Candles from the Diptyque Holiday Collection, with art by Philippe Baudelocque inspired by the constellations. Even after the candles are gone, I’ll be left with the beautiful art.

And the best gift you’ve recently given? A silk scarf from Fifth Avenue in New York that I bought for a close friend to mark a new journey she’s embarking on. I’d like her to feel as striking and powerful as the scarf struck me as being.

What place inspires and rejuvenates you? My home. I live on an eco estate where I can walk, run, or just sit on a bench and look out over a pond. I really get to connect with nature here.

A place that’s really caught your attention? The National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC in the US. Ghanaian-Britsh architect David Adjaye designed the award-winning building, and the collection is about much more than the name of the museum indicates: it’s about Africa and Africans and explores the origins of our music, our pioneering forefathers and also our painful past.

The last item you added to your wardrobe? A Scotch + Soda kimono. I might be the first man to wear a kimono on the streets of Joburg.

Your favourite city in the world? Tokyo, as it’s a city that sets you off on an adventure.
