The one indulgence you would never forgo? After every big project, I indulge in a self-care day. It usually begins with a breakfast in bed, followed by a full-body massage by The Travelling Therapist. I then head out for a solo lunch and a movie.

What are your essential grooming lotions and potions? My skin is very sensitive, so I always opt for natural, ethically produced skincare. My favourite is the Lula & Marula purifying treatment face oil.

What tech gadget couldn’t you live without? My iPhone and MacBook have merged to form my fourth family member. I love that I am constantly alerted to what I need to be doing.

What is your most sentimental object? My husband gave me a rose-gold ring with an amethyst centre and diamonds encrusted around it when my daughter was born.

What is your preferred drink? I am a teetotaller and I am in love with Yswara tea. It is really difficult to pick a favourite, but I love Amina of Hausaland from the African Queens collection. It’s a Rwandan green tea with pineapple, mango, and passion fruit.

When you eat out, where do you go? House of H in Loop Street, Cape Town is my go to eatery. It has perfected great-tasting, uncomplicated food. For dessert, the koeksister waffles are delectable.

Which element of your wardrobe signifies your sense of style? I love earrings, and since I have really short hair, they have definitely become a focal point. My favourite pair is by For Lorne, and depicts an expressive face on one ear and the torso of a woman on the other.

Which was the last object you fell in love with? I recently stumbled upon woven-grass peak caps designed by Atang Tshikare. I loved them so much I bought three, and they are hanging in the living room as art.

A watch brand you love? I absolutely love Bettél watches. The quality is impeccable, with both the wood and leather being locally sourced. The latest high-end collection, made of beech, nude leather, and scratch-resistant glass is an instant classic.

The last place you travelled to that captured your heart? While on holiday in Morocco, a few years ago, I fell in love with ornate, intricate patterns. They were everywhere: every surface was painstakingly adorned to perfection. It spoke to all the different parts of my heritage — African, Arab, and Islamic.

Which books can we find on your bedside table? I’m currently engrossed in In the company of Women by Grace Bonney.

What is the last meal that really blew you away? I had the most delicious gorgonzola and wild mushroom arancini followed by dark chocolate fondant with marshmallow ice cream at Kloof Street House in Cape Town.

Which musician appeals to you at the moment? Nina Simone and Solange are on constant rotation, with a little Patty Monroe added to keep me inspired.

What’s next on your list of must-have items? I’m hoping to get my hands on some Ash Ceramics platters and coffee tumblers. I think great design should be part of everyday use, rather than special occasions.

What is the first item you add to your grocery cart? My first stop is always the sweet aisle, because I have a horrendous sweet tooth. Honest Artisan Chocolate offers delicious, guilt-free dark chocolate, made from organic Tanzanian beans.

The best gift you’ve been given recently? My favourite gift has to be my gold Missibaba banana bag. I had been coveting it for months and my husband surprised me while we were away for my birthday celebration.

A gift you’ve recently bought someone? For the birthday of my mother-in-law, we bought her a classic leather bag. My husband customised it by adding organic abstract strokes in acrylic paint to create something personal and unique.

Which place inspires and rejuvenates you? My home is my solace. It’s the place I am most free and comfortable. It’s a collection of beautiful memories we’ve created as a little family and trinkets from our travels. It’s a work in progress and evolves as we do.

An attraction that’s recently caught your attention? I would have to say that the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa is on my must-see list. What I love most about it, is that it’s a celebration of contemporary African art. My favourite exhibition is by Kudzanai Chiurai: it’s incredibly powerful and topical.

What was the last item of clothing you added to your wardrobe? I live in sneakers. My sneaker collection now outnumbers my boots and high heels. I’ve managed to wear sneakers to every occasion except weddings, but I’m hopeful.

Your favourite city? Cape Town is naturally beautiful and it is home, while Johannesburg is a melting pot of innovation and ingenuity. My favourite city would be an amalgamation of both.
