The chardonnay | Restless River Ava Marie chardonnay 2019
The husband and wife duo consistently produce incredible chardonnay from their estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and the 2019 Ava Marie is no exception. The nose offers a flinty minerality together with lime zest, raw almond and just a hint of its time on lees. The palate follows with focus and purity, a laser-like acidity together with sour citrus, white stone fruits, and that initial minerality following through from nose all the way through to the long enduring finish. A stunning wine.

The pinot noir | Paul Cluver Estate pinot noir 2020
An elegant and exceptional expression of Elgin pinot noir. On the nose, earthy aromas mingle with red and dark berries. A wonderfully savoury palate of wild mushroom and forest floor then expands to the sweeter, juicier notes of sour cherry and plum, which carry through to a long lingering finish. Velvety tannins and superb acid give this wine phenomenal structure.

The Bordeaux Blend | Steenberg Five Lives
The 2019 and maiden vintage, a merlot, cabernet sauvignon blend, delivers a medium bodied wine, with chalky tannins and medium to long length on the finish. The dominant merlot (76%) brings fruit and freshness with the cabernet (24%) adding structure. Expect an herbaceous and earthy nose with notes of cassis and black currant, all of which continue onto the palate mingling with Christmas spices, beetroot and plum.
The release created and inspired in recognition of the lifelong resilience and courage of Steenberg’s pioneering 17th century founder, Catharina Ras, sees the packaging narrate her story across five unique back labels.
