In case you missed it, the Fall / Winter 2016 Show for Prada broke boundaries in Milan. Having teamed up with Christophe Chemin, (a French self-taught artist whose work cannot be categorized, rather his work is a wondrous cultivation of several mediums that breaks limits), both the women’s and men’s collections were bold, eclectic and theatrical.

Chemin describes this project as looking at the past and questioning the history of our world. He says, “There is something about the past, about looking at what is considered ‘old’, that is both romantic and absolutely contemporary”.

Mystical and historical references are rife throughout. From ‘Banquet Thieves’, to ‘Survival Utopia’, Chemin makes reference to Classic archetype in art history, and revisits the myth of historical incoherence of Noah’s Ark. He also focuses on past heroes (‘The Important Ones’) and draws inspiration from ‘The Impossible True Love’ as what he describes as a unobtainable dream of two star-crossed lovers whose tale lies only in their dreams, and floats forever in time.

It seems only fitting then, that one of contemporary cinema’s most celebrated actors – Eddie Redmayne was selected as the face of Prada’s AW16 Menswear collection. Redmayne, who is not shy of mystical and historical characters, (think “Theory of Everything”, and JK Rowling’s soon-to-be-released “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), wears the campaign effortlessly.

Romance, mystery, masculinity and the illusion of time are heavily felt in this collection, and certainly holds Prada as a fashion house to be reckoned with.
