Ace + Pearl Wine Bar 

When the owners of Warm & Glad restaurant on Jan Smuts accepted the proposal of their long-time restaurant business manager Derryn Orpen and her husband Terence to create something special in their space next door, Ace + Pearl fine wine bar was conceived. Still glowing from their honeymoon two years ago, the Orpens decided on a Parisian-inspired cosy, romantic haven that’s an escape from the usual.

“The word bar is used very loosely in the name… We wanted to create a tranquil space where people can come to have a glass or two of our hand-picked boutique wines, interact with new and interesting people and enjoy long conversations,” said Derryn. The pair often invite winemakers and patrons can purchase either a tasting menu, a glass or a bottle as the winemaker takes them on a journey of stories behind their creations.

It’s an intimate evening ensemble of the perfect view, a humming ambience, jazz and blues, sips and clinks that feels like it could be anywhere in the world. “We love the idea of journeys colliding and people trying new  unique wines, and because we sometimes receive them in small allocations and limited 
ranges, coming here will always be a great adventure.”
