This range, designed and co-created by former Olympic equestrian Mary Alice Malone, is brand new to South Africa. Haven’t heard of it? Well, the brand is reasonably new (only five seasons) but it’s making a mark across international shores. And now, Cape Town-based Maison Mara stocks five of its designs both in store and online.

Malone’s background includes furniture design and upholstery, but she settled on her chosen craft at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion, and now makes beautifully sculptural and engineered shoes. Of the styles available, Kelly Mara Withey (Maison Mara founder) chose the following five to feature in the boutique:

Maureen Mules, available in antique rose and black, crafted in Italy using suede; the Savannah, a lace-up stiletto also has a four-and-a-quarter-inch heel; one of the most famous styles, the Montana, with sharply pointed toes; and lastly, a pair of flats called Robyn, made from Nappa leather.

Withey says on her choices: “I discovered Malone Souliers about a year ago and fell in love with their style. Every single detail, from the chemical-free dye to the foiled gold logo, has been meticulously considered. The result is beautifully crafted shoes by a label that I believe is fashion forward and inspiring.”

Prices start from R7 600 and new designs will be launched between two and four times a year.
