Twenty-two of the 52 luxurious villas in the first collection of Private Homes at One&Only Le Saint Géran in Mauritius have already been sold, says Richard Haller, Pam Golding Mauritius director.

The exclusive homes are sold on a freehold basis, with buyers investing in $375,000 or more in real estate under the country’s property development scheme automatically eligible for a permanent residency permit.

Since its inception 46 years ago, the “Grande Dame” of Mauritius, One&Only Le Saint Géran, located in Belle Mare on the island’s northeastern shores, is a vibrant tropical playground, which has featured on The Best Hotels and Resorts in the World by Condé Nast Traveller USA and Condé Nast Traveller UK Gold List 2019.

One&Only forms part of Kerzner International Holdings, a leading international developer and operator of unrivalled destination resorts, ultra-luxury hotels and bespoke residential communities.

Says Haller: “Private Homes is an extension of this experience as homeowners will enjoy full access to the resort’s signature, ultra-luxury services and facilities, including concierge, private beach club, spa, fitness centre, five gourmet restaurants and bars, swimming pool and a host of water-based activities such as yacht cruises, coral-reef diving and big-game fishing. You literally have a playground on your doorstep. Each stylish, secluded residence features large volume indoor spaces, a swimming pool, shaded terraces and generous garden, with the larger villas boasting wraparound sea views.

“Owners can also join the Private Homes Rental Programme, which takes care of rental marketing and management, gain membership of the resort’s beach club and fitness centre, and benefit from privileges at all One&Only resorts worldwide. In addition, the Private Homes will be fully maintained and serviced by the resort.”

Set on 2km of pristine beach on the resort’s secluded peninsula, the elegant Private Homes villas are available in five different layouts from two up to six bedrooms, inspired by their surroundings with the choice of two distinctive architectural styles – Modern Mauritian with pitched roofs, and Contemporary, which features flat roofs.

The two- and three-bedroom residences, which extend over two floors and are priced from $1.74m for 280m² and $2.24m for 313m², feature an interior sky window to maximise natural light in the kitchen area, while the 540m² four-bedroom homes, set on plots of up to 2.200m², have large volume living spaces and several outdoor terraces and are priced from $4.1m.

For grand tropical island living, and priced from $6.35m, the 729m² five-bedroom villas offer sumptuous space, large infinity swimming pools and a separate ground floor room for use as a guest room or studio. These are set on large plots of 2.233m² with easy access to the beach.

Five-bedroom units are also available on the beachfront, as well as 758m² six-bedroom villas with infinity pools and sweeping ocean views. These exclusive properties are priced from $10.4m.

“Always a firm favourite with SA tourists, Mauritius already feels like a second home to many, and as a result has a sizeable expat community. Offering a secure lifestyle, with sound infrastructure, including world-class medical facilities, it is fast-paced in its overall growth and only a short plane trip from SA,” says Heller.

“Coupled with this, over time, with more than three decades of sustained economic growth and political stability, Mauritius has proven to be a safe zone to purchase property for those seeking alternative residency. The lockdown measures introduced on the island have been swift, resulting in successful managing of the Covid-19 pandemic — which has also assisted in providing confidence to invest and spend time in Mauritius in the security of one’s own home.

“Since June 2020, we have concluded sales in Mauritius to a total value of R500m, with buyers representing a mix of those seeking investment, spending a few months a year on the island, and those wanting to settle here permanently.”

One&Only Le Saint Géran, which was completely reimagined with an extensive renovation in 2017, and is acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest ultra-luxury holiday destinations, is in one of the best locations on the island, along an idyllic coastline.
