An “urban concept store” is what owner Joanne Peltz calls The Jungle, a bright spot on a rather rundown Jan Smuts Avenue. Just next door is Warm & Glad, the “it” coffee shop that belongs to her business partner, Jonathan Shaw. “The Jungle is the best of what we find locally and a blend of international brands that showcases creativity,” says Peltz. The goods range from books to home-ware, grooming products, sneakers and clothing. In the airy shop, with full windows facing the street, you will find brands sold nowhere else in SA.
The BacSac, an urban composter/planter designed in Paris, is clearly one of Peltz’s favourite items. The Malin + Goetz body and skincare products are exclusive to The Jungle, as is the Pederse + Lennard homeware, a Scandinavian-inspired range developed locally. Pop in for a coffee and a squiz at the international magazines and if you’ve ever wondered how to make craft and artisanal products, the books for sale will be up your alley.
