1. GONSENHAUSERS FINE RUGS X JULIA SWANEPOEL PEPLER
We are crazy about Gonsenhausers Fine Rugs newly launched “re-stitched landscape” collection in collaboration with artist and designer Julia Swanepoel Pepler. The rugs take the form of abstract splashes, bold in form but harmonious in their colour combinations and you may be surprised to learn that they took flight from the artist’s love of aerial photography.
The collection takes its name from the act of Julia assembling images from various sources like Google images, satellite images, photographs and maps, and then blending them and stitching them together, giving birth to places that exist only in the eye of the artist.

In fact, we think designer rug collabs are on the up; here are a few more that caught our eye:
2. LUND RUG GALLERY X MEGAN BISSET
Fans of bold geometry will love Lund Rug Gallery’s new collection, Centricity, in collaboration with graphic designer Megan Bisset. Clean-lined and playful, it’s the designer’s ode to her love of the circular form as well as a nod to the role of the rug in bringing a room together. Centricity’s rugs are made from a blend of wool and silk and have all been hand tufted in India.

3. THE RUG COMPANY X KELLY WEARSTLER
Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Jaime Hayon, Diane von Furstenburg, the list goes on…collaborating with the very best, The Rug Company has developed a reputation for thrilling designer rugs and aesthetes just can’t get enough. Kelly Wearstler’s Brink collection in hand knotted Tibetan wool and silk is one of our faves though, for its elegant and subtly patterned linework and dot motifs and demure colour palette in ivory, dusk and smoke.

4. MONN X CATHY O’CLERY
A couple of month’s ago, MONN collaborated with 100% Design South Africa’s Creative Director Cathy O’Clery on 100% Carpet. Spanning from the entrance of the exhibition hall right the way across the floor to the other side, this bold and colourful continuous carpet featured the works of some of the country’s ripest design talents, namely street artist r1, textile designer Sindiso Khumalo and interior designers The Collection Studio.
