The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been a leader in the executive segment since it first appeared in 1993. Its origins go back even further than that though, to 1946, and with more than 14-million having been sold, the E-Class is one of the great pillars of the famous marque.

Now the new-generation E-Class has received a significant update and continues to set the benchmark for luxury, technology and beautiful design. The sedan, coupé and cabriolet all convey the status of their owners and showcase the famous German carmaker’s philosophy of “the best or nothing”.

“The 10th generation of the E-Class set styling trends in 2016 with its clean, yet emotionally appealing design and an exclusive, high-quality interior,” says Johannes Fritz, Mercedes-Benz South Africa co-CEO and Mercedes-Benz Cars executive director. “Together with the wealth of innovation in areas like driving assistance systems, it proved successful, with more than 1.2-million customers around the world buying a new-generation E-Class sedan. Our latest extensive facelift builds on that platform to deliver the most advanced E-Class sedan yet.”

The E-Class sedan has always been the business and this is reflected in some of the key design changes. These include more chrome details, high-gloss black items and new split tail lamps, enhancements that might seem small but which make it more attractive than ever.

Inside the changes are even more impressive, with the latest in connectivity and infotainment across two elegant high-definition 26cm display screens. The latest MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) connected multimedia system provides more information, detail and access to entertainment than ever before. Having a personal assistant available to you is now as simple as saying “Hey Mercedes”.

There’s no better way to enjoy the connectivity on offer than to experience the new Energising Comfort Control, which can alter the seat to adjust to your posture on a journey, while also adjusting the lighting, music and even selecting a seat massage setting to suit your mood.

Driver assistance systems also make driving easier and safer. The new E-Class sedan is available with Active Distance Assist Distronic, which sees slowing traffic ahead long before you do. While your hands remain on the steering wheel, Active Tailback Assist can keep you in your lane and manage your speed up to 60km/h, perfect for taking the strain out of the commute to the office.

And when you leave the office and head for the open roads, what better luxury sedan to be in than the amazing Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC+ with its 4.0l V8 placing 450kW and 850Nm under your foot. It’ll give you an exhilarating rush to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds while ensuring you have all the comfort of an E-Class in a body that now also looks even sportier. Plus, if sporty really is your thing, then the latest model has a Drift mode, pushing all that power to the rear wheels for when conditions really allow you to forget about daily routines.

Speaking of conditions, make the most of the great SA weather when the sun is shining and drop the top on the stylish E-Class cabriolet. The perfectly tailored fabric roof opens or closes at the touch of a button and, like its sedan sibling, it provides the highest level of comfort and technology.

So too does the new E-Class coupé, with its classical lines that, like the convertible, have been enhanced by design changes that keep it looking fresh and stylish. Both models have two high-resolution screens to access the numerous features of the MBUX and the new driving assistance systems and both offer sumptuous comfort for four.

The E200 and E300 versions provide ample power for any driving style, but if it’s power you're after, then you’ll find 320kW and 520Nm in the new Mercedes-AMG E53 4MATIC+ coupé and cabriolet.

“We have always made automotive dreams come true and the E-Class coupé and cabriolet facelift take this to the next level,” says Fritz. “The emotive appeal of these two dream cars has been further enhanced by the model upgrade. The E-Class cabriolet with the classic fabric top offers spaciousness and comfort on long journeys for up to four people, while the new E-Class coupé combines the beauty and classic virtues of a grand tourer with state-of-the-art technology.”

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class sets the standard for executive comfort. With the latest upgrades, it takes this to a new level and combines the luxury the three-pointed star is famous for with the best technology. It will enhance not just your driving experience, but the way you live. For decades the E-Class has been regarded by many as the “heart of the brand” for Mercedes-Benz and for those who appreciate the philosophy of “the best or nothing”, there can be no other choice.
