The spirited powerhouse talks us through her favourite things
Essential grooming products? I am in love with Suki Suki Naturals’ facial range, especially the Açai Gentle Exfoliating Mask and the Whipped Shea Crème.
What tech gadget couldn’t you live without? My Harman Kardon Go + Play portable Bluetooth speaker. I can carry it anywhere I go and it instantly adds to the mood at a party, weekend away, or family get-together. It has a back-up battery and, when charged, it can play for hours.
What is the single most sentimental and important object to you? I inherited a vintage bag from my late mom. It holds such sentimental value to me because the piece represents her style that she and I have in common. I still keep the contents that she forgot in the bag before she passed away.
What item in your wardrobe signifies your style? A vintage dress I bought more than 10 years ago. The dress is easily transformed to a modern, classic, or edgy look with red lipstick, shoes, a hat, or a coat. My dress sense is taking something simple and iconic and giving it a modern, edgy twist. The dress captures my personality of being old-school with a slight creative, expressive flare that is memorable.
A watch brand that you love? I am not crazy about watches, however if I were to own one, it would be the classic Cartier Tank Solo. It has a simple, yet iconic and classic rectangular face design. It is wearable for formal and casual wear, displaying understated elegance.
Your next must-have items? Artwork from the Africa Polo Open Art – Covid series. The work was done during lockdown. The visuals beautifully reflect Africa in polo and feature polo players from Africa. Wonder Buhle Mbambo’s work Comfort, which explores how comfort can be, practically, a delaying space. It resonated with me while I was in lockdown and reflecting on the concept of comfort. I also must have a Fieldbar handcrafted cooler box in teal or orange for beach days or going to watch polo chukkas.
What is the first thing you add to your grocery cart and the one thing you’ll always find in your fridge? Wine and in-season fresh produce sourced from local farmers that I order online from The Crop Box — it gets delivered to my doorstep.
The best gift you’ve been given recently? Rahim Rawjee of Row-G, a dear friend, gifted me a canary-yellow, tailor-made, high-waisted pant suit with an iconic jacket. It is a strong, daring, beautiful, structured suit that is a true representation of my personality. It’s so special because he made it with love, care, and so much thought of my body type and personality. I love that I can also wear it as separate pieces and it is timeless.
What place inspires and rejuvenates you? I get rejuvenated by water, the sound of the waves, sun, a book, and delicious food. I love White Pearl in Ponta Mamoli, Mozambique, because of its endless untouched beach with all suites facing the sea. It also has a private butler and a special surprise that the resident chef prepares every night for dinner.
