Thula Sindi’s AfricaRise store gives up-and-coming designers a place to shine

Aficionados of African design will already be acquainted with Thula Sindi’s AfricaRise retail concept store, which opened in Sandton City late last year. The punchy venue gives independent fashion and accessory designers a platform to show their wares without the costs associated with renting space.

Last month, the store hosted a gathering which saw a carefully curated selection of designs presented for sale. We were particularly smitten with Maria McCloy’s colourful, vibrant ranges of accessories, including beaded bracelets, funky Dutch wax print-inspired sneakers, mud-cloth bags and delicate gold earrings.
