The king of sneakerheads and vintage needs no introduction. Sean Wotherspoon was catapulted to superstardom with his victory in the Nike Vote Forward Air Max Day Contest. The corduroy-dressed Air Max97/1s were an instant classic, becoming a collector’s dream overnight. Wotherspoon has since ventured into further collaborations, from Asics to Vespa.

Wotherspoon founded Round Two, a vintage clothes and sneaker store, aged 23; he now has seven stores across America. Round Two’s carefully curated fashion, coupled with the cult community of fashionistas — including visits by Kanye West, Virgil Abloh and Tyler the Creator, among every other creative on the West coast — has cemented the Chicagoan’s status as a fashion icon.

Describing himself as a plant-based designer, Wotherspoon has been a vegan for the past seven years and has been an advocate for environmental change for most of his life. From sustainable fashion to using recycled material and spurning fast-fashion, his collaborations and lines have had an earth-first approach.

Nike Air Max 97/1

The coveted Nike Air Max 97/1s were followed by collaborations with Guess Jeans USA, Adidas, Asics, Chinatown Market and Vespa.

Wotherspoon’s original shoe, the Adidas Superturf, will be released in November 2021. The trail runner boasts his signature patchwork aesthetic, coupled with a beloved Disney character on the tongue.

Guess Farmers Market

Vintage Guess silhouettes are reworked with Wotherspoon’s classic palette of bright and bold colours and patterns. The range expresses California’s agricultural heritage with over-dyed garments, striped shirts and more.

Asics

The Asics Gel-Lyte 3 sneaker was a Japanese exclusive but is now available globally. Adorned with his signature corduroy, Wotherspoon offers divergent colourways on each shoe, representing Los Angeles and Tokyo. The shoes, a three-way collaboration with retailer Atmos, were released with a collection of corduroy tote bags and tees.

The fusion of western and eastern street culture, celebrates Asics’ most iconic shoe silhouette.

Chinatown Market

Chinatown Market, rebranded MA®KET as of this week, teamed up with Wotherspoon for a vibrant three-piece vibrant capsule collection. The collaboration consists of a long-sleeve tee, a tee and sweatpants.

Adidas

Adidas and Wotherspoon have had three collaborations so far. The first, a vegan-based Super Star was followed by the ZX 8000 SUPEREARTH and now his original, the Superturf Adventure. The first two collaborations featured the three-stripes overlaid with a frayed aesthetic; 2021’s Superturf features Disney’s Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio and is an outdoor trail sneaker.
