BELLA DONNA

If there’s one jewellery house that is synonymous with the unconventional use of coloured stones, it has to be the Italian fine-fashion jeweller Pomellato. And while the luminous colours of its famous Nudo rings are irresistible, it is the warm sensuality of brown diamonds that currently have us enchanted. The Pomellato Tango collection features a unique pavé diamond design, where different sizes and shapes of diamonds are set in an irregular fashion, resulting in a perfectly imperfect tactile sensation. The Tango “knot” ring is rose gold with burnished silver, featuring brilliant and rose-cut brown diamonds. These are not everyday diamonds. But as Pomellato’s first female CEO, Sabina Belli, said recently: “Pomellato is about the beauty of being yourself, which, in a world that often manipulates women’s feelings and the way we look at ourselves in the mirror or feel about our position in society, is liberating.”

BRACELET GOALS

Cartier just has the knack of making bracelets that we all covet. First there was Love, then Juste un Clou, and now it’s the agile La Panthère bracelet. This new Cartier bangle is made of curved yellow and rose gold, stemming from the head of a sculptural panther with emerald or tsavorite garnet eyes. Choose one that has diamonds only on the head or on the head and tail. This bangle’s suppleness has no internal spring, just a natural fluidity that slips on and off your arm with sheer luxury.

MOST WANTED: HAPPY SPORT BY CHOPARD

The iconic Happy Sport by Chopard almost didn’t happen. Back in 1993, Caroline Scheufele, now Chopard co-president and artistic director, proposed the unprecedented mingling of steel and diamonds in a new watch that she hoped women would want to wear all day. Almost 30 years later, the Chopard Happy Sport has become an icon of casual chic that appeals to all generations of women. The Happy Sport tale continues with a new face and in a comfortable new size. The actress with the happiest smile of all, Julia Roberts, is now the global face of Chopard’s Happy Sport and, for the first time, the watch comes in a comfortable 33mm case inspired by the “golden ratio” principles of aesthetic harmony. By using the golden ratio in direct relation to the diameter of the Chopard 09.01-C movement with automatic winding powering its ladies’ watch collections, the case of the Happy Sport is particularly well suited to the female wrist.

LIFE AND LIGHT

The creative team at Graff Jewellers travelled to the dunes of Atlantis in the Western Cape to create the dramatic imagery for its new Tribal Collection, photographed by Mikael Jansson and featuring Portuguese supermodel Sara Sampaio. The hero motif of the Tribal Collection is the Graff Gateway — a contemporary vision of timelessness linking the past and the future, the earth, and the stars. Modern and sculptural, the abstract ovals of Gateway resonate with symbolism.
