African Fashion International is renowned for hosting world-class fashion and lifestyle experiences, and guests can expect an expressive blend of fashion, cuisine, cocktails, live music and a 360-degree view of the city of Joburg at the AFI Joburg Designer Week 2021.

But there’s much more in store for guests, who can choose to watch from the comfort of their couch online or in person as the three-day event taking place from October 28 to 30 2021 on the 41st floor of the Leonardo in Sandton.

The packages are bespoke experiences include fashion, live DJs, delectable canapés and drinks. And David Tlale, one of SA’s biggest designers, will be showcasing his collection at the finale on October 30. 

In-person and virtual guests can Shop the Runway with House of Nala, featuring curated offerings from pan-African ready-to-wear and luxury brands. The Shop the Runway Experience will travel to Durban and Cape Town, making African luxury fashion more accessible.

As part of the fashion extravaganza, AFI is again partnering with PlatAfrica to showcase this year’s finalists, which is aptly themed Metamorphosis. Now in its 22nd year and hosted annually by Anglo American Platinum in partnership with Metal Concentrators and Platinum Guild International India, PlatAfrica aims to promote innovation and technical expertise in platinum jewellery design and manufacturing in SA.

The winners in the student/apprentice and professional categories and the popular People’s Choice Award, will be announced during a virtual showcase event on October 29. And all the one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces entered for PlatAfrica will be available for sale online. The pieces will be hosted on the House of Nala AFI online store for a limited period and will go live after the show on 29 October. For an-in person preview, the pieces will be available at the House of Nala Concept Store at The Leonardo Apartments in Sandton, Johannesburg only on October 30 and 31 2021

AFI Fastrack is the national graduate fashion platform offered by African Fashion International. This developmental platform provides emerging designers with a marketing opportunity, showcasing a capsule collection at AFI fashion events with full production infrastructure. 

An annual selection of five to 12 finalists are paired with an established designer mentor as they compete in a three-episode reality TV series.

The winner is awarded the title of Young Designer of the Year, start-up capital to invest in their business and a retail opportunity with AFI’s e-commerce platform and House of Nala Concept Store. 

The young emerging designers on the AFI Fastrack programme will showcase their final collections on day two of fashion week.

PlatAfrica is again partnering with AFI, to showcase this year’s finalists’ pieces as part of 2021 Joburg Fashion Week 2021. The winners in the student/apprentice and professional categories, as well as the popular People’s Choice Award, will be announced during the virtual showcase event on October 29.
