HUGO BOSS DRESSES GERMAN TEAM AT SOCCER WORLD CUP

While the rest of the world is lusting after the green and white strip of the Nigerian Super Eagles, I’m rather intrigued by the understated and enigmatic cool of German football coach Joachim Löw. Now I know his secret: Hugo Boss has revealed it is responsible for the German national team’s super chic uniform for off-the-field activities.

Saturday’s win against Sweden might have had a tight finish, but there’s nothing uncomfortable about the BOSS capsule collection which consists of a deep dark blue suit that can be worn with a shirt for smart or a knitted polo shirt for a more sporty look.

There’s also a bomber jacket, a knit sweater and drawstring pants in the collection and all the pieces can be worn together.

Of course the team colours feature in subtle details and the knit sweater with a tonal print of the team’s eagle emblem is seriously understated German chic.

LOUIS VUITTON LAUNCHES INTENSE MEN’S FRAGRANCES

It was big news when Louis Vuitton launched their first woman’s fragrance last year – packaged in striking Marc Newson-designed apothecary-style vessels that can be refilled at the boutique only, this was the understated luxury perfume launch of the year.

Well now it’s the LV mens’ turn, with the launch this month of master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud’s five intense fragrances that pay homage to the adventurer “on a quest for self-revelation”. Of course there would have to be a travel theme and each variant explores a different destination for the global nomad.

From woody to citrus, spicy to amber – each of the five new men’s fragrances from Louis Vuitton come in 200ml and 100ml sizes. There are various collectors’ editions available, including a handy leather travel case for the intrepid Louis Vuitton explorer.

VERONICA ANDERSON UNVEILS NEW JEWELLERY COLLECTION

CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE MOVES TO JOBURG

It’s not quite Lake Como, but classic car lovers should diarise the lovely Concours South Africa that takes place at Steyn City this year – from 10th to 12th August.

Something of a beauty pageant for classic and vintage cars, the Concours concept started in Italy in 1929 and this is the third year that it will take place in South Africa.

Classic car owners devote months and years to readying their pride and joy for display at the Concours, so be prepared to pay due respect to the beautiful cars on show.

Organisers have created an app called Concours South Africa to help you track happenings surrounding the event.

THE VINTAGE DRIVING WATCH FROM FREDERIQUE CONSTANT

While we’re on the subject of vintage cars, how lovely are these vintage-inspired driving watches from Frederique Constant?

Each year, the fine folk at this relatively young Swiss watch manufacture launch a limited edition vintage rally timepiece – inspired by the manufacture’s passion for racing.

The Vintage Rally Healey Chronograph is the ideal combination of a classic and sporty look, with each of the three new model versions apparently picking up their  DNA from the iconic design of the 1960s British automobiles.
