HARRY STYLES IN GUCCI AW18/19 CAMPAIGN

Alessandro Michele has done it again, this time in that most traditional of English environments: The fish and chips shop in north London. His model for Gucci’s AW18/19 campaign is none other than One Direction star Harry Styles and he of the choppy bob looks perfectly at home with a chicken under his arm for the campaign video. We’re getting pretty used to Mr Michele’s flights of crazy fancy – mostly because the clothes are always great. What’s not too love about Harry’s navy check suit sporting a cute bee motif, complete with the tongue in cheek “Guccy” logo. It’s a little bit crazy and a lot of wearable.

PRADA IN NYLON

For something a bit more serious, in her Autumn/Winter 2018 collection for Prada, Miuccia Prada returned to those black nylon roots that made everyone sit up and take notice when the Italian leatherware label launched nylon bags back in the 1980s.

Voluminous proportions and boxed off silhouettes, with models all sporting Prada-branded access cards, gave the collection a distinctly industrial feel. As usual, the fashion world was standing by to hear what one of the industry’s most intellectual designers had to say about her vision for the future. Vogue reported Ms Prada’s portentous words: “We are living in a period which is interesting because we do not know where we are going. Of course scary, of course worrying, but also interesting because of the feeling that big changes are coming.”

JEWEL COLOURS AT DAVID JONES

On the ready-to-wear front, I was delighted to see that David Jones is doing beautifully elegant pieces in burgundy and emerald this winter. The David Jones silhouette, available from Woolworths, is class and quality personified. I happen to be having a little love affair with colour right now, so will certainly be investigating this Aussie label this season.

IWC

Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen must be the dream brand head. Not only does he run the coolest instagram account, showing off a different IWC on his stylish wrist every day, now he’s game to star in the watch brand’s latest collaboration with Mercedes Benz.

The new social media campaign by Mercedes-AMG, a long-standing partner of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer, includes a short film now available online, where Mr Grainger-Herr appears in the new Mercedes-AMG E 53 4MATIC+ Coupé, wearing the Ingenieur Chronograph Sport Edition "50th Anniversary of Mercedes-AMG". The watch, the car and the CEO are all super cool.

STAR QUALITY FROM JAEGER-LECOULTRE

The Shanghai International Film Festival kicks off this weekend and luxury watch maison Jaeger-LeCoultre will be unveiling some exquisite new timepieces to mark the occasion.

There’s definitely something red going on: The first watch Jaeger-LeCoultre is launching is a limited edition of 100 pieces of the exquisite red and pink gold, diamond-studded, Rendez-Vous Night & Day collection. Instead of a moonphase feature on the dial, this version of the Rendez-Vous Night & Day, has a five-pointed star in its place – surely a tribute to the stars of the red carpet at the film festival!

And while on the subject of stars, this new red model from the Rendez-Vous collection is impossibly luxurious, with a halo of pink sapphires around the dial demonstrating the fine line between fine watchmaking expertise and high jewellery. The watch dial dial displays the changing constellations and signs of the zodiac, both enamelled in shades pink gold.
