CATE BLANCHETT STUNS IN GIVENCHY

While everyone’s talking about the Duchess of Sussex’s exquisitely elegant  Givenchy wedding gown designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, I noticed the beautiful Givenchy couture piece that Cate Blanchett wore at the Cannes Film Festival. The president of this year’s Cannes jury, Ms Blanchett looked absolutely breathtaking in this rainbow dress – which also featured in the April edition of French Vogue. In continuing Hubert de Givenchy’s knack for timeless yet statement style, Ms Waight Keller is certainly ensuring her place in the history books.

LOUIS VUITTON AT THE SOCCER WORLD CUP

Louis Vuitton has once more teamed up with FIFA and Adidas to create a unique trunk for the match ball, for this year’s Soccer World Cup that kicks off in Russia next month.

But I’m sure football fashion fans are going to be more interested in the new official licensed collection of World Cup bags and wallets, sporting a distinctive, playful look in all the bright colours of the teams participating in the world’s biggest sporting event.

Unfortunately the new collection isn’t going to be sold in South Africa but for those who are travelling this year, these are the new LV styles to look out for: The collection includes new versions of the Keepall duffel and the Apollo backpack, two wallets, a pocket organiser, a coin purse and luggage tags.

The collection also sports a specially designed Louis Vuitton FIFA World Cup logo, while the initials “L.V”, in lettering first used on the personal trunks of Gaston-Louis Vuitton, are placed like a team badge.

With Louis Vuitton’s long tradition of personalisation, an ingenious customisation tool comes with every item, giving clients the chance to create original and unique flag-inspired coloured versions of the collection’s Keepall bags.

The football-inspired collection is available online or from selected boutiques, from the 14th June till the end of July.

CARA, TAG HEUER AND THE LION

With a few unfortunate incidents involving tourists and wild animals in the news recently, I was rather surprised to see that Tag Heuer was featuring the lovely Cara Delevingne and a large maned lion baring his teeth, in their latest “Don’t Crack Under Pressure” campaign.

The images were shot in South Africa, by fine art photographer David Yarrow and I’m still not sure if the lion was actually there when the striking shots of the beautiful model were taken, or whether the beauty and the beast only met via photoshop.

Still Ms Delevingne’s eye make-up is sensational, I’m quite taken with the lion tattoo on her finger and the messages of power and confidence are loud and clear.

DESIGN JOBURG IN THE DIARY

Design Joburg returns this week, with a lovely line up of features and collaborations at the Sandton Convention Centre from Friday 25th May to Sunday 27th.

Local design talents I’ll be looking out for include David Krynauw, Tristan du Plessis, Donald Nxumalo and JVR architects. And of course no-one’s going to walk past the gin bar created by Ardmore and Hendricks Gin.

Design Joburg started last year, as something of a reincarnation of the Rooms and View exhibition and incorporating the show by the same name.

For those who saw the first Rooms on View exhibitions all those years ago, decorator Sumari Krige remains one of the most stylish women in décor in this country. She has a way of putting things together, be it in a home or design show, and visitors will always flock to see her newest ideas.

THEATRE PERFECTION

I had the opportunity to experience one of life’s greatest delights this past weekend: A brilliant piece of theatre, by a group calling themselves Contagious Theatre. Directed by Jenine Collocott, The Snow Goose is a classic tale about loneliness and courage, now adapted in a truly novel fashion using masks and cleverly changing characters.

In 90 minutes, I was moved, amused and entranced – as was the rest of the audience. I cannot praise this small group of artists enough and hope that everyone gets to witness their talents.

Find out where they’ll be performing next here.

VINTAGE COUNT DOWN

We’re almost there. One of Joburg’s biggest vintage fashion sales for literacy is upon us and I feel compelled to do some shameless self promotion once more – all in the name of charity.

Presented by the forum at the campus in Bryanston, Vintage with Love is a glorious weekend pop up shop featuring rails and rails of really good quality fashion ranging from Zara to Prada at incredible prices.

The sale starts on Friday 1st June at 5pm, with the opening night a special event with complimentary bubbly and a first chance to shop the designer bargains. The pop up shop like no other is also open all day Saturday and half day Sunday.
All proceeds from the annual sale go to literacy organisations around the country, so do please try and support this wonderful event.

You can buy your tickets for Vintage with Love at the door or skip the queues and buy online here.
