It’s not unusual to find the colour red in many a makeup collection. For instance, a bold red lipstick is a classic that speaks of confidence, sexiness, and an ode to a bygone era. Neapolitan Lucia Pica, Chanel Beauty’s newest creative designer for makeup and colour, is a huge fan. Pica says of her debut collection, inspired by this bold hue: “I am obsessed with the colour red; I always have been. There is strength and motion, warmth, and disruption in red.”

And it’s not only about lipsticks. One of our favourites in the Fall 2016 Le Rouge Collection Nº1 is the Les 4 Ombres Candeur et Expérience, R920. This eyeshadow quad with a difference contains shades of reddy brown and an almost brick red, which looks surprisingly striking when blended into lids — especially when pared with Le Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Éros, R450. The intriguing Kirsten Stewart is the face of the collection, which is on shelf from August 5.

“Red is intense, vulnerable, sexual, and eternal. I really wanted to explore the meaning of colour and what is behind it in the collection,” says Lucia Pica.
