From the moment you turn on Hisense’s 65U6H Quantum ULED 4K TV, you’ll be blown away. Of course, the 65U6H is a sleek TV — it’s impossibly thin with a modern design — but why is the colour contrast of its 65″ display so noticeably different to that of other devices? And while we're asking that question, what is ULED anyway?

The display of the 65U6H is incredible. No matter what you choose to watch, you’ll experience an elevated overall picture quality that’s hard to describe. A lot of this comes down to ULED or Ultra LED, a term used by Hisense that means the screen has an ultra-wide colour gamut, ultra-local dimming, ultra 4k resolution and an ultra-smooth motion rate. Simply put, a ULED TV, like the 65U6H, offers a brighter and more detailed picture and one of the reasons for this is you’re getting significantly more colours on screen.

More colours? Try over a billion, thanks to the brand's Quantum Dot Colour technology. The secret to this dynamic palette is Hisense’s Hi-View Engine and full-array local dimming, which result in darker darks and brighter brights. There’s also something called AI Picture, where Hisense uses artificial intelligence to upscale what you see on screen, thanks a fifth-generation processing chip. It’s incredibly tech-savvy and increases the UHD (Ultra High Definition) resolution four times.

After logging into Netflix — more on that later — a message popped up to ask if I would like to upgrade my viewing experience to match the TV’s capabilities and, to be frank, I didn’t realise I wasn’t experiencing Netflix in 4K Ultra HD. But it’s more than HDR (High Dynamic Range), it’s HDR 10+, the latest iteration of HDR that works differently — and it makes a huge difference.

Behind what you see, HDR+ allows TVs such as the 65U6H to set up colour and brightness frame by frame. If the picture wasn’t realistic enough, HDR+ makes it even better. Combined with Dolby Vision, Hisense have really packed in all the high-end features needed for vivid and engaging screen time.

Over and above an unmatched viewing experience, sound matters, and the 65U6H is equipped with Dolby ATMOS technology to ensure the audio is cinematic. This is also an important feature for gaming — the sound needs to be as good as the screen.

With the 65U6H, Hisense has included something called Game Mode Plus, which is all about optimising input lag and response time. Using this smart setting will reduce the input lag dramatically through ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode). Game Mode Plus also has a Variable Refresh Rate to ensure the game is stutter-free and immersive.

One of our favourite features of the 65U6H is Hisense’s easy-to-use and customisable content hub called VIDAA. This is Linux-based content hub, which puts all of the content you love in one place. While there are dedicated buttons on the remote for DStv, Showmax, Netflix, Prime Video, DEOD, Plex and more, VIDAA makes it sleeker, more so if you use VIDAA Voice.

Yes, you can control the 65U6H with your voice, just like other top-of-the-line smart home devices. Not sure where to begin? Hisense have made it simple — all you need to do is press the microphone button on the remote control and ask: “What can I do?”

The sheer amount of curated content, however, is overwhelming. Over and above being able to sign into your favourite streaming services, there are channel additions we’ve never seen on other devices — there’s even a button on the remote for Deezer. Looking to stream background music? Hisense has it covered.

Now that you’ve realised you’re probably going to be spending hours watching this premium TV, you’re probably going to wonder — what about my eyes? With all their TVs, Hisense have taken eye health seriously. The 65U6H is certified by TÜV Rheinland, which means it protects your eyes by reducing the blue light ratio, even after long time watching.

Considering its competition price point — the recommended retail price is R16,999 — the Hisense 65U6H looks and performs like an extremely high-end TV. Its minimalist design means it will fit perfectly into any décor scheme and become a talking point for anyone who sees its impressive display.

The 65U6H has everything you could ask for in a smart device, with a design that considers how people enjoy entertainment today. No matter if you’re engrossed in a sports match, playing the latest AAA game or bingeing your favourite series, the 65U6H delivers a premium and powerful HDR viewing experience.
