We’ve tracked down three skilled interior design firms which have shaped a new breed of service tailored to lockdown living. If you’re battling with an uninspiring room or an awkward hallway, they have foolproof systems which put the power of change into the homeowner’s hands … without setting foot in your space.
1. HEATHER BOTING
Magazine stylist turned successful interior designer Heather Boting uses a simple, but personalised, system that renders great design accessible to all. “Style by Numbers is a digital decorating service in which you’ll receive a guide on where furniture should be placed so you can action the changes yourself, in your own time and according to your own budget.”
After an online consultation and walk-through, Boting provides a floor plan with a carefully curated new layout and a mood board, as well as links to specific furniture and homeware items in the plan.
“This option is for the savvy homeowner who has a keen eye for detail and interiors but would love the help and advice of a professional to steer them in the right direction.”
2. BONE STUDIO
One of our favourite design duos Nicola Orpen and Hayley Turner have just launched At Home with Bone, an online design service as polished as the spaces for they’ve become celebrated, such as La Colombe Restuarant, Kauai, Ou Meul Bakery and most recently eatery Tryn.
“A room-by-room decoration service aimed at the client who is looking for a more cost-effective solution for lifting their home space and can’t necessarily afford standard designer fees,” is how Orpen describes their offering. Clients will get access to the studio’s creative ideas, a layout plan and furniture/decor shopping list with supplier details. They can implement the changes themselves, in their own time.
The pair offers both a partial and a full design solution, with the latter being more of a gut solution, including flooring and fittings and finishes suited to bathrooms and kitchens, at a lower cost than a traditional interior design project.
3. ATTIK DESIGN
Having designed, among other spaces, Café du Cap, one of our favourite spaces for its incredible atmosphere, Attik Design already has our respect. Design director Brigid White sees her virtual service as a “roadmap on how to make your space stylish, comfortable and practical”.
A virtual walk-through and consultation with Attik Design gets you a tailored solution by way of a PDF including a new layout and floor plan, as well as design sources.
“I'd recommend this to anyone who has dead areas in their home, areas they need some advice on or any space that just doesn't feel complete. During the current lockdown there is no better time to pour energy into your space and show it some love,” says White.
