If 10 minutes is all you have but you’re looking to add a booster to your skincare routine, Clarins Extra Firming Mask, R705 for 75ml, ticks all the boxes.

When we age, we lose collagen in our skin – it’s the network that keeps flesh bouncy. Clarins has discovered how to use naturally derived ingredients to help support the skin and keep it elasticised. These include green banana and lemon thyme, both of which are in a specialised complex in its new skincare mask.

The firming complex in this mask has been proven to support this collagen network – have a firming action and boosting elasticity. Clarins of embarked on a study, where it evaluated the “cumulative impact of stress, fatigue and muscle contractions on the face after one week”, which involved 32 women, aged between 35 and 51. The study measured aspects such as crow’s feet and their depth, contours, and frown lines to work out how to improve them.

The mask itself is a lavender-hued, gently scented, cream-gel. Ingredients such as sunflower waxes, jojoba, hyaluronic, and mimosa give skin that feeling of smoothness, moisture and generally make it feel as if you’re bathing your skin in something luxurious. A light molecular weight, too, makes it a pleasure to use.

Application using the pressure point method (look here for a how-to) makes the experience even more sensorial and the results, which are great to begin with, even better. When the mask was used for 10 minutes, using the method and applied at the end of the week, eye contour lines improved 28.6%, the volume of crows feet improved 10.4%, with an overall “tired” look improvement of 25.5% — just in time for the weekend.
