Colouring in has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few years, and adult colouring books are totes en vogue — but as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, lockdown restrictions across South Africa has seen book- and- stationery stores close. Colouring in is believed to have calming benefits, relieve stress, and allow for mindfulness meditation to take place through creativity. Now, more than ever, people need mood-boosting activities while in isolation.

We have already seen some luxury brands that have proffered illustrations and sketches — MoMA, Manolo Blahnik, Audi — and now, local luxury handbag and accessories brand Okapi has released a collection of gorgeous illustrations for you to colour in at home.

Created in collaboration with South African illustrator Chantal-Henry Swiegers, the collection is inspired by the beauty of Africa’s animal families in the wild. Choose between the Okapi, Elephant or Cheetah illustrations — or colour them all — and celebrate the calming practice of colouring during this time at home.

As the brand explains, “In these challenging times the beauty of Africa has never served more as a source of inspiration and relief. We hope these illustrations inspired by the family bonds and communities that exist in the wild allow you to connect and relax with your loved ones!”

Happy colouring!
