Presented by Carol Bouwer Productions, The African Odyssey 2019 in association with Boschendal, is a women empowerment and entrepreneurial summit that attracts pioneering practitioners in the South African and global fashion, design, luxury, beauty and entrepreneurial space.
The fashion and beauty summit and empowerment workshop aims to create a platform for like-minded women to establish strong and sustainable cross-border relationships.
Not only can guests look forward to speakers, there will also be a charity auction in association with Stephan Welz and Co. by Anton Welz.
The following items will be up for auction:
1. ARTWORKS BY ZANELE MUHOLI
Zanele Muholi HonFRPS is a South African artist and visual activist working in photography, video, and installation. The self-proclaimed visual activist's work focuses on race, gender and sexuality with a body of work looking at black lesbian, gay, transgender, intersex individuals and politics in contemporary SA. “The portraits are at once a visual statement and an archive,” she has said, “ ... marking, mapping, and preserving an often invisible community for posterity.”
2. AZAEL LANGA ARTWORK
In the work titled, Always ready for forgiveness 2019, the candle smoke and ink on canvas, Azael Langa depicts a little girl carrying a backpack with the city inside. Langa shows how kids are unconsciously taught that life is in the city.
“Some lose their parents to the city but they are always waiting and ready to forgive and are open to loving. They wait every evening for what their parents will bring and this becomes a cycle.
“Most kids grow up thinking that the city is where everything is as most parents wake up every morning to go make a living in the city and when they return every evening they bring with a piece of the city. And the first thing a child does is to open the plastic to find what their parents got for them and that is a precious memory and a resemblance of a city.
“Smoke is not just a medium, but an extension and expression of my soul. It allows me to see beyond the physical,” he says.
