EAT AT: SLOPPY SAM
Sloppy Sam is a Cape Town institution that’s just moved from Somerset Road to an extremely cool position above Origin Coffee in De Waterkant. For those totally out of the loop, chef Hooman Saffarian’s spot does exceptional Levantine food (that I dream about, to be honest). The menu comprises lots of little plates to share, so ask Saffarian what he recommends on the day — the menu changes based on produce availability — and get a whole lot to devour. Just don’t forget portions of the crispy lamb ribs and the roasted aubergine with tomatoes.

WATCH: LITTLE WOMEN AND MARRIAGE STORY
Get ready to weep (or at least feel a thawing of in your cold, cold heart) with these two films. Director Greta Gerwig’s take on Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women is on SA screens this month. It’s a wonderful, warm adaptation but it’s also smartly scripted to feel much more relevant to a modern audience. And it’s got top young stars in the leading roles — including Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet. Plus, Meryl Streep and Laura Dern too.

For a hugely real take on modern relationships, and marriage specifically, Netflix’s Marriage Story is going to be hard to beat. Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver are a couple in the throes of divorce, and this is the story of the separation and its ongoing, unexpected reverberations. It’s quietly powerful drama at its best.
