1. DELISH SISTERS – Tasty Food Made with Love – Kate and Rebecca Lund. Penguin SA.

KwaZulu-Natal sister act Kate and Rebecca Lund have long been fixtures on the local foodie scene, beginning with a popular market stall, a successful café and, more recently, a busy bespoke catering business. The publication of a cookbook containing their recipes for the fresh, wholesome and delicious food Natalians have come to love is not only a dream come true for them but for all the patrons missing their regular Delish fix.

All their signature dishes grace the pages – think roast pork with tahini sauce; spinach and blue cheese gnocchi; mushroom and thyme cigars; their creative breakfast dishes and sweet treats, including their famous chocolate and caramel brownies –themed around harvest tables and sharing food with love. It’s beautifully photographed, too, by talented local Lar Glutz making it a feast for the eyes as well as the belly. It’s a must for the festive season.

2. DURBAN CURRY UP2DATE – Erica Platter and Clinton Friedman.

This book pairs two national treasures: Durban curry and food doyenne Erica Platter. This is her second foray into collecting and curating recipes for curry and she explains it’s because curry in KZN is an ever-evolving dish.

The format of sharing local food personalities’ recipes and insight is the same but the 53 new recipes make this a worthwhile addition to your kitchen counter. With photographs by Clinton Freidman that all but burst off the page with their saturated vibrancy, it’s gorgeous to look at as well.
