Liza Maresch has always had a desire to open a deli. In particular, one alongside The Local Grill, which was opened by Steven Maresch and partner Rivak Bunce in Melville 14 years ago. The Local Grill has since become an iconic steakhouse on the corner of 7th and 3rd avenues in Parktown. Since its Melville days, Liza Maresch’s dream has evolved slightly — to a steakware concept store — and Local & Company was born at the end of 2016.

“Through The Local Grill, we’ve seen an increased demand for beef and braai accessories that have always been available through the restaurant,” Liza Maresch says. “Patrons are also hugely interested in the different cooking concepts, now offered through the store.

According to Liza Maresch, products to look out for include: “The finest aged grain and grass fed beef; charcuterie from our in-house Italian butcher; Wagyu beef from Woodview; Taste of Karoo venison; Freestate Farms fresh lamb from the Lamb Shack, plus a range of olive oils and our homemade rubs.” The space is also set to host Saturday morning braai classes and a Weber white-glove service, where you can bring in your old Weber for a service or a trade-in. localandcompany.co.za
