The upcoming homewear range by The Reverency is inspired by an imagining of how the indigenous people of South Africa would have been impacted by the evolution of design in the modern world. The calabash used to serve umqombothi (African beer) thus gives rise to the Cup of Reverence. Its finish is intentionally imperfect to give a handmade effect, and the lines are based on the black and white stripes on umbhaco (traditional attire). Most of the range will primarily be decorative, with functionality secondary, allowing the products to reference sculpture.
