South African artist Athi-Patra Ruga traverses his Azanian metaverse through magnificently embellished tapestries, sculptures, and performance pieces, which parody and critique the political and social status quo. For the fourth edition of the Dior Lady Art project, Ruga was among 11 international artists invited to participate “in the game of metamorphosis by rendering the iconic Lady Dior as a unique piece of art”. His contributions to the collection are two bags, decorated with pearls, crystals, fabric, and embroidered flowers, which highlight the artist’s unique universe and technical brilliance. Ruga is represented by Whatiftheworld gallery.
