Yoshida & Co is the cult Japanese company best known for its rich heritage of producing top-quality luggage and accessories. Its founder, Kichizo Yoshida, started learning his craft at age 12, and the company has retained his philosophy of excellence and attention to detail. In 1962 along came Porter, Yoshida & Co’s private label.

The brand is affectionately named after the porters from hotels who would develop the closest relationship with luggage, often knowing more about the material and hardiness of the pieces than the owners themselves. And now, in 2016, Loading Bay has introduced Porter to its offering, a first in South Africa. Each bag and wallet is still manufactured in Japan, retaining Yoshida’s brand integrity.

As it states on the website: “(Yoshida) continued to create bags and wallets in his last years; he loved bags, he loved leather, and acted on his philosophy (of putting) ‘heart and soul into every stitch’.” As well as the beautiful basics available here, have a look at some of the brand’s bolder collaborations, such as this one.
