The official fashion week fall calendar comes to a close this month, which means it’s time to reflect on the trends that set the scene at Paris Fashion Week.

Masks were popular – whether to protect against the searing cold or being infected with coronavirus – and while knits and heavy fabrics are the usual a go-to for winterwear, playful notes lightened the mood with flashy florals and a kaleidoscope of colours.

We take a look at some of the hottest trends to hit the streets at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2020.

1. MASK MAKEOVER

Faceless fashion has apparently become a thing. Fashionistas attending the Paris shows donned medical-style masks, with some going as far as full-face masks and others opting for lacy, detailed numbers.

2. CHECK, MATE

Sleek, sexy, preppy and fun, checked garments were du jour on the streets of the French capital, from dresses, skirts and matching three-piece ensembles to statement capes.

3. MULTICOLOUR MADNESS

Clashing and contrasting colours are nothing new, and with a cheeky take on fashion dominating the streets of Paris, it’s no surprise attendees were playing around with bold rainbow themes.

4. FLOWER POWER

In tune with the playful mood, some attendees wore daring constructions featuring floral fabric decoupage. Whether it was a feminine finish to the perfect dress, a head-turning decorative number or detail on a statement piece, flower power was having one hell of a moment.

5. OSTRICH FEATHER FRENZY

Fur is out – and it has been for a while – and attendees at Paris Fashion Week seemed to have substituted one fluffy no-no for a slightly more ethical one – ostrich feathers.

6. HERE COME THE MEN IN SKIRTS

Menswear in Paris took a bold step in the gender-fluid direction with gents opting for skirts and gowns. The more sartorial selections saw staple blazers paired with matching kilts.
