The Huawei MateBook D14 has just landed in SA.

This sleek laptop features a powerful 11th Gen Intel Core processor and supports Huawei Super Device, which means you can seamlessly connect it to your Huawei tablet, smartphone and other technology to take multitasking to the next level for maximum productivity.

What is Huawei Super Device?

Just a few years ago, working from home was something that companies offered as an incentive, calling it “flexible working”. In 2022, it's become the norm to work full-time in the office or from home – or somewhere in between.

With this rise in flexibility comes a demand for technology that facilitates new ways of working. This includes using desktop PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones in varying combinations at the same time. These needs are not necessarily restricted to the workplace either, given that we now use the same tools (smartphones, laptops and tablets) for both entertainment and work.

[Creating a Huawei Super Device] breaks down the barriers between the gadgets you use everyday, making life so much easier

To accommodate this, global technology giant Huawei has set out a new vision for the future: one in which its computers, tablets, smartphones and other products can be unified into a single multi-device system – a Super Device, if you will. The idea is to break down the barriers between the gadgets you use every day, making life so much easier.

Consider, for instance, the possibilities that arise once you connect your Huawei laptop and tablet to create a Super Device. You'll be able to access files across both, as effortlessly as if you were using a single device. This would allow you to, say, draft an email on your laptop and effortlessly attach a file that's saved on your tablet. This frees you from having to contend with complex file transfer processes, so you can focus on maximising your productivity with fewer distractions.

How to create a Huawei Super Device

A Super Device is essentially “created” by wirelessly connecting one compatible* Huawei device to another.

This is done using the Super Device interface on a Huawei PC, such as the new Huawei MateBook D14. After you've designated the PC as a trusted device, you can discover and connect to your Huawei tablet or smartphone. Doing so is an easy and intuitive experience, thanks to Huawei's industry-first “drag to connect” functionality.

Furthermore, after setting up connected devices as trusted devices, your PC will automatically connect to them as soon as they are brought within range.

Create a PC-tablet Super Device to enhance your laptop's efficiency

With your Huawei laptop and tablet working seamlessly together as a single Super Device, you'll be able to work more flexibly and efficiently than ever before. Here's how:

Mirror mode

As the name suggests, in this mode your tablet’s screen mirrors exactly what your PC’s screen is showing. This allows the tablet to use the PC’s superior hardware, while the PC has access to the functionality of the tablet’s stylus. You can also use the tablet to draw, and the image will appear straight onto your PC.

In a smart-office environment, you can use the tablet while giving a presentation on your PC, with the tablet’s touchscreen making it easier to annotate or skip slides.

Extend mode

In this mode, your PC’s display is extended, using your tablet as a second screen. This makes for a more efficient smart-office experience as you can open two PC software programs at the same time, with one displayed on your laptop's screen and the other on your tablet's screen — perfect for taking notes during an online class or video conference call.

Collaborate mode

Here, your tablet and laptop share the PC's keyboard and mouse, which can be used simultaneously on both screens. Plus files and texts can be dragged back and forth across operating systems.

Make your smartphone even smarter by connecting it to your PC to create a Super Device

Once you've created a PC-smartphone Super Device, you'll be able to:

Easily share files

You can share files between your smartphone and PC with a simple tap or by “dragging and dropping” them. So, for instance, you can attach a document on your smartphone to an email that you're drafting on your PC, or save an image from your laptop directly onto your phone. What’s more, content can be conveniently “copied and pasted” between two devices.

Control your smartphone from your PC

You can use your laptop's mouse and keyboard to unlock and control your cellphone, allowing you to work on both devices simultaneously. You can also launch smartphone apps from your PC.

Connect to calls on your laptop

You can answer audio and video calls received on your smartphone on your laptop, allowing you to conveniently chat hands-free while continuing to work.

Multitask more efficiently

Multi-screen collaboration means you can view your smartphone's screen on your laptop screen while opening more than one software programme or app at the same time. This feature is great when comparing products from multiple shopping apps or cross-checking information between news apps.

It also makes it easier to multitask whether you're working or studying: you can attend an online class or meeting on one app while taking notes on a second and discussing issues with your classmates or colleagues on a third.
