James Bond likes to make a big entrance, although Daniel Craig’s latest dramatic arrival in No Time to Die was somewhat delayed due to the pandemic. Not his fault of course and he could not blame Q for this one, or that he’d forgotten to wind his Omega. Bond is rarely late and when he is it’s usually because his journey is interrupted by an evil villain or by another Bond Girl.

But what if it is the Bond Girl that is responsible for ensuring he makes his dramatic entrance? In this case we aren’t actually talking about a girl at all, but MY B0nd Girl, a trimaran yacht concept penned by designers George Lucian and Hannah Hombergen.

Measuring  70m, the concept looks radically different to anything that would normally be called a superyacht. We’d even go so far as to say it’s more evil Spectre than elegant Casino Royale. Sorry, but Bond puns are unavoidable at this point, although I’ll try to keep them to a minimum.

The gun-metal grey coloured exterior is extremely dramatic, all evil and sinister but at the same time neat and well polished. It definitely has presence, like many of the bad Bond Girls perhaps, famous names like Mayday (Grace Jones) in A View to a Kill or Miranda Frost (Rosamund Pike) in Die Another Day.

It might not look like it can sneak up on evil villains, but under cover of darkness the choice of hybrid propulsion means it can engage stealth mode and cruise silently using just its electric motors. Should there be a need to creep up on the bad guy’s yacht, then it also has a dock at the rear to which the villain’s vessel can be attached and towed back to Mi6 headquarters.

The master suite also inspired the overall design but not just from the styling perspective. Lucian went with the idea of a trimaran because it provides less vibration inside the cabin, thus ensuring the occupants can sleep more soundly — unless, of course, they feel the need to sleep with one eye open.

It’s no less sinister inside either with plenty of dark wood, marble and gold across two levels. Lucian admits that the interior is very much based on the numerous evil lairs used throughout the series of Bond movie and it shows. The master suite itself covers two floors complete with a folding balcony, because any Bond boat needs gadgets, although don’t expect to find built-in machine guns, flame-throwers or an ejector seat, at least not in the original concept anyway.

Additionally, there are five other suites for when M or Miss Moneypenny drop in or for when Bond just wants to throw a party. In that case, the large infinity pool on the deck will also prove to be rather useful. Like any other superyacht, there are numerous other lounges, a galley and a bar where a Martini can be poured — shaken not stirred of course.

The MY B0nd Girl hasn’t yet been commissioned, but Lucian has a penchant for designing yachts that take inspiration from the military, aviation and space, and many of these elements can be seen in this latest design. Over the years he has created a few other extreme ideas, such as the Dare to Dream, which was a dramatic platform that could carry an airship, because sometimes a helipad is just too subtle. He and Hombergen have even penned a New York skyscraper, named The Vertical Yacht because of it’s yacht-like interiors.

At a predicted cost of over $100m, it’s unlikely that B0nd Girl will ever be built, but in the world of superyachts where money is often no object, we would never say never again.
