A few short weeks ago, designers united under the Hall 1 roof at Gallagher Estate in dusty Midrand. Interior enthusiasts and design buffs alike descended upon the hall searching for the newest and coolest in décor from 100% Design — in its third consecutive year. Wanted was there and rounded up of some of our standout pieces and brands.

1. Monn’s colourful carpets.

Thick, wool carpets in intricate and unique designs are the order of the day for Monn. We particularly like the Monn Axminster Malachite, designed by Susan Aukema and the Platform Creative Agency, which looks like something Jackson Pollock would be proud of. Who knew carpeting could be so beautiful?

2. Robin Sprong’s eclectic wall designs

If you’re after a bespoke wallpaper or vinyl design, Cape Town-based Robin Sprong is your guy. The brand’s latest collection includes Tropical Leaf and another great concept — Wall Tile Stickers. A pack of 20, with designs that mimic Portuguese tiles or modern geometrics can be applied by you at home to spruce up your kitchen wall. Robin Sprong is also the official licensee for Vladimir Tretchikoff Wallpapers in South Africa, Germany, and Australia.

3. Made by Architects make furniture too

We trust them to build our houses and offices so why not our furniture too? The Ribcage Bench is made from solid, laminated bamboo and in limited quantities.

4. Deep Agency — the creative crowd behind the fair’s philosophy

This print and design consultancy is not a tangible product per se, it’s at the helm of the design identities of many recongnisable products. Deep Agency was in charge of the “afro-futuristic” overall design philosophy behind the 2016 show, which encompassed a plethora of primary colours and geometric shapes.

5. Damn Good Looking makes you look better in its mirrors

Damn Good Looking makes mirrors to order, and the bonus is that they’re designed and manufactured in Gauteng. Our favourite is The Frank,  a steel-framed, oblong number that sits away from the wall, leaving enough space to hang scarves (the brand sells these too) alongside it. The Frank will cost you R7 500, with measurements of 1 500x450.
