Only two months after its launch, Wanted Online is already making headlines after it was named best new product at the inaugural Digital Media Africa Awards held in Sandton on Thursday night.

Another winner on the night was Times Media’s 2016 local government elections web application, which won best data visualisation project. Times Media is also the publisher of Wanted Online.

The awards, organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-Ifra), celebrate innovation in digital publishing and are presented in regions including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia. Regional winners compete for the World Digital Media Awards, to be held in Austria in October.

Wanted Online is the digital platform of Business Day’s glossy lifestyle and luxury magazine Wanted but publishes daily online content alongside articles from the print edition. It covers the arts, entertainment, society, travel, food, style, fashion, watches, jewellery, beauty, technology, motoring and more, with a fully responsive design making it easy to read on any device.

The Times Media elections app allowed readers to follow in real time the drama of August’s local government elections. Along with interactive maps, news and past election data, it included a unique “battlefields dashboard” that monitored the key political contests in Nelson Mandela Bay, Johannesburg, Tshwane and elsewhere while the votes were being counted.

Times Media head of digital Lisa MacLeod said: “These awards are testimony to the incredible work being done by our editorial and development teams as we reposition all our tech and move into high gear on exceptional product development. We are pleased and proud, and we’re now looking forward to our next release, which is BusinessLIVE.”

At WAN-Ifra’s Digital Media Africa Conference, which preceded Thursday night’s awards ceremony, MacLeod introduced BusinessLIVE, an innovative new website for South Africa’s business and financial sector that is launching in October.

It brings together Times Media’s best business content, including Business Day, the Financial Mail, the Sunday Times’s Business Times, Investors Monthly, Rand Daily Mail and Business Day TV, in one place, making it a one-stop shop for all the news and views worth knowing.

The BusinessLIVE Premium area for subscribers offers exclusive syndicated content from the Financial Times, extensive data tools from unit trust platform Morningstar, and full online access to The Wall Street Journal.
